MUNTI LGU PARTNERS WITH FAITH-BASED GROUP TO SERVE DEAF COMMUNITY

PARTNERS TO SERVE MUNTI DEAF COMMUNITY: Muntinlupa Social Service Deparment head Annalyn Mercado, representing Mayor Jaime Fresnedi, signs a memorandum of agreement with International Evangelical Church of Alabang Pastor Robert Cosare last 7 for the implementation of a community-based rehabilitation service for people with hearing disability in the city. The local government partners with IECA Deaf Ministry in conducting advocacy activities and referral of PWDs to a community for interaction, counseling, crisis intervention, livelihood opportunity, moral ascendancy training, and spiritual development.

The City Government of Muntinlupa entered a partnership with the International Evangelical Church of Alabang (IECA) to implement a community-based rehabilitation service for people with hearing disability in the city.

Social Service Department head Annalyn Mercado, representing Mayor Jaime Fresnedi, attended the signing of a memorandum of agreement with IECA Pastor Robert Cosare last June 7 at Penthouse, Westgate Tower, Alabang.

IECA currently runs a program through IECA Deaf Ministry which provides a comprehensive community-based rehabilitation service for the deaf community ensuring their inclusion into the mainstream of society.

The faith-based group committed to provide technical assistance to the City Government in promoting the rights and empowerment of the hard of hearing and local deaf community.

IECA also pledged to provide resource persons and interpreters to trainings which include Understanding Disability and Roles of Parents in the Rehabilitation, Sign Language Training, Holistic Transformation Seminar, Personality Development Training, among others.

The Social Service Department shall be coordinating with the IECA Deaf Ministry for the conduct of advocacy activities and referral of PWDs to a community for the deaf people for interaction, counseling, crisis intervention, livelihood opportunity, moral ascendancy training, and spiritual development.

Mayor Jaime Fresnedi expressed his gratitude to the faith-based group for their assistance in the rehabilitation and self-development program of the deaf community in the city.

The local government champions the welfare and rights of persons and disabilities in Muntinlupa. Recently, a local ordinance has been passed for the creation of Muntinlupa City Persons with Disabilities Affairs Office which will be responsible for the formulation and implementation of policies, plans and programs for the promotion of the welfare of the PWDs.
