Muntinlupa opens pre-registration of 5-11 y/o for COVID-19 vaccination

The local government of Muntinlupa has announced the pre-registration of minors aged 5 to 11 years old for COVID-19 vaccination.

Mayor Jaime Fresnedi urged parents and guardians to register their children to the Muntinlupa City COVID-19 Vaccination Program (MunCoVac) as protection from the adverse effect of COVID-19. Fresnedi said the pre-registration aims to create a database while the city awaits final guidelines from the Department of Health.

Muntinlupa residents under the 5-11 age group may be pre-registered online through the city’s COVID-19 vaccination registration system The public may choose the category “Pediatric A3 (5-11 yrs. old)” for those with co-morbidities and category “Pediatric/Rest of the Pediatric Population (5-11 yrs. old)” for well-child population or those without co-morbidities.

Last December 23, the Philippine Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved EUA for Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine for ages 5 to 11 years old.

Former FDA director general Dr. Eric Domingo made the announcement during a Laging Handa briefing and noted that Pfizer’s vaccine has 90.7% efficacy rate for the said age group

“It is reasonable to believe that the vaccine may be effective to prevent COVID-19 and the benefits of vaccination outweigh the known and potential risks,” Domingo added.

Earlier, DOH clarified that COVID-19 vaccination for 5-11 years old has not yet started.

“Preparations are still underway for the roll-out of COVID-19 vaccines for the said age group. The National COVID-19 Vaccination Operations Center will announce the exact start date as soon as COVID-19 vaccines suitable for ages 5 to 11 and its appropriate syringes become available,” the DOH noted.

Further, for the 12-17 age group, the local government has inoculated at least 26,020 minors as of January 5. This translates to 50% of the age group’s target population. There are 44,681 registered pediatric residents in the local COVID-19 vaccination registration system.

Meanwhile, as of January 5, at least 444,539 doses of COVID-19 vaccine were administered in the city or 116% of the target. Of the total, 369,044 were fully vaccinated or 96% of the target. While, at least 29,029 received their booster shot.

To date, Muntinlupa City has 28,098 confirmed cases with 27,059 recoveries, 459 active cases, 580 reported deaths, 1 suspect case, and 208 probable cases.
